Located in Canaima National Park, Angel Falls is the world’s highest waterfall. It roars from a cleft near the summit of the tabletop mountain Auyan-tepu and spills into Devil’s Canyon. The falls are a tributary of the Carrao River, part of the Orinoco River system. Until the mid-1950s, Angel Falls was largely unknown, with the local Kamarakotos Pomon tribe remaining away from the waterfall due to the fear of alien spirits.
